A bit more about the workshop
Our framework for the day is the Basic Psychological Needs by Ryan & Deci:
autonomy, competence, and relatedness — and how supporting these needs helps foster intrinsic motivation in dancers, in real studio settings.
We’ll begin with a short, ballet class where we will exemplify how we integrate the need's support within our lessons.
Then we will l do an interactive theory session to ground our understanding and give us a shared language around motivation and learning.
We will explore:
-
How to actively support dancers’ motivation through the way we teach and the environment we create
-
Discuss clear strategies and how to adjust for the different age groups and skills
-
Clear, real examples of language, structure, and feedback
From there, we’ll move into collaborative working sessions.
Together, we will:
-
Share experiences from our own practice
-
Co-create practical exercises and strategies that support motivation
-
Refine ideas so they are immediately usable in day-to-day teaching, training, and leading
The focus is simple:
What can we actually take back into the studio on Monday to better support our dancers’ motivation?
