A bit more about the workshop

Our framework for the day is the Basic Psychological Needs by Ryan & Deci:
autonomy, competence, and relatedness — and how supporting these needs helps foster intrinsic motivation in dancers, in real studio settings.

We’ll begin with a short, interactive theory session to ground our understanding and give us a shared language around motivation and learning.

Then we’ll move straight into practice.

You’ll take part in a short ballet class where we’ll explore:

  • How to actively support dancers’ motivation through the way we teach

  • Clear, real examples of language, structure, and feedback

  • Time to observe, question, and reflect

From there, we’ll move into collaborative working sessions.

Together, we will:

  • Share experiences from our own practice

  • Co-create practical exercises and strategies that support motivation

  • Refine ideas so they are immediately usable in day-to-day teaching, training, and leading

The focus is simple:
What can we actually take back into the studio on Monday to better support our dancers’ motivation?
